Public input sought on school plan

Brian White
Visioning sessions coming up at BHS

The Butler School District's new Superintendent Brian White is planning a series of workshops this fall as part of a process to create a new strategic plan for the district.

The public is invited to participate in several different strategic visioning sessions this fall in the senior high school cafeteria:

- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 26

- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 12

- 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 18

At the sessions, people will be asked to respond to a prompt and give feedback about the vision and direction they would like to see for the district.

“The idea is to gather a lot of information in a very non-threatening open kind of way to get perspective,” White told the school board last week.

After these sessions, the district will be seeking volunteers to participate on a number of action planning teams that will develop ideas for the future.

White said that he was tentatively planning a “strategic planning retreat,” for Oct. 25 and 26.

The action planning teams will include school board members, teachers, administrators, principals, parents and district residents who don't have children in the schools, White said.

The groups will use the Cambridge strategic planning model, which White said he has been trained in as a facilitator.

His goal is to have a new strategic plan finished by May.
