[naviga:h3]Amazon announces center in Ohio[/naviga:h3]

MONROE, Ohio — Amazon has made it official: It plans to locate one of its fulfillment centers in the southwest Ohio city of Monroe, bringing more than 1,000 jobs.

Ohio recently approved a 1.39 percent, 10-year tax credit for the project, along with a tax credit for a planned fulfillment center near Cleveland that could employ 2,000 people. The Seattle-based e-commerce giant says the Monroe center will add to more than 6,000 Amazon employees already in Ohio.

It says associates at the 1-million-square-foot facility will pick, pack and ship larger customer items such as sports equipment, gardening tools and pet food.

[naviga:h3]Homebuilder sentiment falls[/naviga:h3]

U.S. homebuilders are feeling less optimistic about their sales prospects, reflecting concerns that rebuilding efforts following hurricanes Harvey and Irma will drive up costs for labor and materials.

Even so, builders’ overall view of the new-home market remains positive.

The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index released Monday slipped to 64 this month. That’s down three points from a downwardly revised reading of 67 in August. Readings above 50 indicate more builders view sales conditions as good rather than poor. The index has been above 60 since September last year.

[naviga:h3]MGM plans new Connecticut casino[/naviga:h3]

HARTFORD, Conn. — MGM Resorts International revealed plans Monday for a $675 million waterfront casino in Connecticut’s largest city, the latest salvo in a competition with two Native American tribes that run two of the world’s largest casinos in the southeastern part of the state.

MGM is already building a nearly $1 billion casino in Springfield, Massachusetts, that threatens to take revenue and jobs away from the Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes responded by proposing a casino less than 20 miles away from Springfield in northern Connecticut that was approved by Connecticut officials and awaits final federal approval.
