Westinghouse inks deal with Ukraine

Contract will cover power plant systems

CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric Co. announced Monday that it has signed a contract with Ukraine’s State Enterprise National Nuclear Energy Generation Company Energoatom to deliver important monitoring instrumentation systems to four units at the Zaporizhzhya power plant.

The project is part of the Complex Consolidated Safety Upgrade Program of nuclear power plants in Ukraine performed under loan agreements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Euratom.

“This project confirms Westinghouse as a dedicated automation provider for the Ukrainian nuclear market and reflects Energoatom customer’s high confidence in Westinghouse as a trusted supplier to deliver high-level safety solutions for Ukrainian nuclear power plants,” said Aziz Dag, Westinghouse vice president and managing director, Northern Europe.

Westinghouse will provide accident and postaccident monitoring systems and hydrogen concentration monitoring systems to Units 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Zaporizhzhya power plant. The upgrade includes monitoring systems, along with accident field instrumentation and additional equipment such as cables, sensing lines, special tooling, accessories, consumables and special mounting and fixing provisions.

Installation supervision, training and warranty for products and services are also included.

Westinghouse will execute the project with selected Ukrainian companies including Westron, a joint instrumentation and controls venture between Westinghouse and Hartron.

The project will start immediately, beginning with delivery of Unit 4 at the beginning of 2018 and ending with Unit 6 delivery in the end of 2019.

The final acceptance of the last delivered system is planned for the beginning of 2021.
