[naviga:h3]Sugar Bowl win is local author’s topic[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — Local author Bill Contz will be at the Cranberry Public Library, 2525 Rochester Road, starting at 6 p.m. Sept. 28.

Contz is the author of “When the Lions Roared,” which chronicles the 15 games leading up to Penn State’s Sugar Bowl win over Georgia in 1982.

Contz will discuss his book and sign copies. Books will be available at the library to purchase with cash or check only or can be purchased at a book retailer before the event.

[naviga:h3]Washington Trail summit slated[/naviga:h3]

CRANBERRY TWP — Butler County will host the Washington’s Trail Summit 2017: Envisioning the Past and the Future from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2000 Garden View Lane.

The gathering will feature presentations, artists and trail representatives.

The registration fee will provide access to all sessions, drawings and lunch.

[naviga:h3]Fireworks, polka mark Oktoberfest[/naviga:h3]

JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host its annual Oktoberfest celebration, featuring a Zambelli fireworks display, from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 7 at Haven I, 112 Marwood Road.

The Mikey Dee Polka Band will provide entertainment. Children’s activities will include a balloon artist, games, hayrides, pumpkin painting, face painting and a bounce house.

Concordia Visiting Nurses will give flu shots and Haven residents will have a rummage sale.

Concordia food service staff will offer a German-themed menu and there will be a traditional beer tent. Children age 12 and younger will receive vouchers for free food at a quick food tent.

Admission and parking will be free and shuttle service will be available. To reduce traffic and safety concerns, arrive well before the 7:45 p.m. fireworks display to park in the designated areas.

[naviga:h3]Tourism Bureau will host farm tour[/naviga:h3]

The Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau will host the Butler County Farm Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8.

The free, drive-it-yourself tour features five farms in northern Butler County.

The farms will highlight their own goods, activities and food for visitors of all ages.
