Scoop's selections back on the beam

I get to keep my job for another week.

While still not great, I did manage to go 9-3 in Week 2 to up my season record to 19-11.

There are only nine games on the docket this week, and some of them are tough to pick, so I’m a bit worried the ol’ Scoopster will struggle again.

No. No. I have to have faith. I can’t let my poor start give me doubts. It’s 9-0 this week, baby.

On to the picks:

Butler 22, Seneca Valley 21 — The 10-year drought will end!

The Golden Tornado have a top-notch offensive line and some weapons to utilize behind it. Seneca Valley is still looking to get some consistency this season.

That adds up to a one-point Tornado win.

Highlands 22, Knoch 17 — I just can’t get a grasp on the Knights this season.

So I have to flip a coin on this one. It landed on Highlands.

Montour 27, Mars 17 — The Planets are another tough team to crack. Montour has looked good so far early in the season and Mars has looked good at times.

Have to go with my gut and pick Montour.

Aliquippa 28, Freeport 19 — I really want to pick Freeport in this one. I think the Yellowjackets are very capable of getting the W in this one.

But this is a business. While my heart says Freeport, my mind says Aliquippa.

This could be a battle of big plays from two explosive offensees.

Central Valley 21, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 16 — Another coin-flip game. I really dislike these.

The Trojans have been game so far this season, but I have to go with Central Valley.

Karns City 32, St. Marys 18 — The Gremlins began to get things together last week, minus a very poor third quarter.

Karns City is on the verge of getting hot again and when they do, look out.

I think it starts this week.

Moniteau 32, Union/A-C Valley 29 — There are tough losses and then there are TOUGH losses. The Warriors’ setback to Punxsutawney falls into the latter.

Moniteau let a 16-point lead slip away in the final minute and then lost in overtime.

There’s two ways this game could go: that kind of loss can shake Moniteau or galvanize it.

Union/A-C is a solid opponent and I think Moniteau will bounce back.

Slippery Rock 18, Mercer 6 — The Rockets have been shut out two straight weeks. They’ll get some rhythm on offense in this one, though.

Slippery Rock is due to break out and put something together. It will happen.

Grove City 35, Franklin 12 — The Eagles are running all over the opposition. They will again.

Summit Academy 39, Cornell 18 — The Knights get their first win of 2017.

Scoop can look at himself in the mirror again.
