Red Barn closes season with 'Hilda's Yard'

Mary Jane Tillia of Ellwood City and David A. Cary of Conway play Hilda and Sam Fluck in the comedy “Hilda's Yard” at the Red Barn Theatre, opening Friday.

FRANKLIN TWP, Beaver County — The Red Barn Players’ final show of the season will be the comedy “Hilda’s Yard.”

The show, written by Norm Foster, is being directed by Shelly Cary of Conway.

The setting is 1956, and Sam and Hilda have finally begun to enjoy a peaceful life. However their blissful nights in front of the television (and a little hanky-panky) are suddenly cut short when their unemployed son and newly single daughter come back for an uninvited and lengthy stay.

Niceties begin to fall by the wayside as strong wills and traditional values face off against the traumatic and spoiled attitudes of youth. Soon, the delightfully hilarious battle between generations of the “Fluck” family begin to show a deeper story of love, work ethic, mental health and domestic struggle.

The cast includes Mary Jane Tillia and DeeDee Evans, both of Ellwood City; David A. Cary and Andrea Cary, both of Conway; Paul Angelucci of New Castle; and John Patalano of Bellevue.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sept. 21-23 and 28-30 at the Red Barn Theatre on Route 288, Ellwood-Zelienople Road.

Tickets are $13. Reservations can be made by calling 724-773-7150.
