Grove City bows to W&J, 47-7

GROVE CITY — No. 23 Washington & Jefferson jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter Saturday and cruised to a 47-7 college football victory at Grove City.

Jordan West scored on two touchdown runs and a TD reception for W&J. Alex Rowse completed 22 of 29 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns.

W&J rolled up 605 yards of offense to Grove City's 264.

Karns City graduate and Wolverine sophomore safety Ethan Conto had eight tackles to lead Grove City defensively. Sophomore quarterback Randall Labrie, making his first collegiate start, completed 19 of 30 passes for 191 yards.

Sophomore running back Wesley Schools scored GC's lone touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Grove City (0-2) travels to Case Western Reserve for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.

Slippery Rock stayed unbeaten over the weekend, hiking its record to 8-0 with wins over Notre Dame College and Charleston.

The Rock (8-0) ties its second-best start in program history. The 2011 team won its first 14 matches.

Erinn Kahoe had 13 kills and Shayla Ray 11 in the 3-1 win over Notre Dame. Kahoe and Brooke Bostwick combined for 21 kills in the 3-0 win over host Charleston.

Slippery Rock scored six goals in the second half and routed Mansfield, 7-0, in a road match Saturday. Brooke Testa scored the lone goal of the first half.

Haley Burkholder, Tess Keeley (2), Madison Thierry, Skye Kramer and Tyler Spence scored in the second half for SRU (2-1-1).

Courtney Page and Kayla Ulrich both scored for The Rock (3-2) in a 2-0 victory over visiting Bellarmine.
