Courtroom outburst earns Lyndora man additional charges

Nicholas J. Campbell

A defendant's courtroom antics Monday morning in Butler earned him more time behind bars.

Nicholas J. Campbell, 35, of Lyndora not only mouthed off at District Judge William Fullerton, but he ripped up the notice given to him for his next court appearance.

Fullerton wasted little time finding Campbell in contempt of court and imposing a 30-day prison term.

The defendant has been in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail since Aug. 31, when Butler police arrested him for allegedly breaking into his mother's apartment on Mercer Street.

The victim, Arlene Campbell, previously advised her son — and police — that he was not allowed at her home.

Campbell, who is charged with felony trespass, appeared in prison garb and in handcuffs for his 9:45 a.m. Monday preliminary hearing.

Fullerton ordered him held for trial in the case. But when the judge denied a request by Campbell's attorney for a lower bond, the defendant got mad.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
