Kimmey, Bushee card 32 in golf victories

Weston Kimmey of Moniteau and Adam Bushee of Seneca Valley both shot 32 in their respective high school golf matches Tuesday.

Kimmey earned medalist honors at the KSAC Mega Match held at Hi Level Golf Course. Moniteau won the team event with a 198, Karns City finished second with 210. A-C Valley-Union was seventh at 248.

Hunter Gifford paced Karns City with a 36, tying for second overall. Moniteau's Nate Tack shot a 37, KC's Logan Pistorius a 39. Also among the top 10 individuals were the Warriors' Ethan McDeavitt with a 41 and Logan Inverse with a 42.

Bushee shot his 32 at Cranberry Highlands, leading Seneca Valley to a 192-208 win over Butler. Paul Lopiccolo shot a 38, Zach Gehm a 39 for the Raiders.

Nick Penrod paced Butler with a 38, followed by Drew Kukla with 39 and Gage Terwilliger with a 42.

Chad Green carded a 92 to pace Slippery Rock in a District 10, Region 5 match at Lucky Hills Golf Course in Franklin.

The Rockets finished fourth out of six teams with 388 strokes. Rocky Grove won the event with 335.

Freeport 220, Leechburg 282 — At Lenape Heights Golf Course, the Yellowjackets (6-1, 5-0) cruised to this Section 1-AA win behind a 38 from David Gaspersic.

Girls Tennis

Laura Greb, Brooke Bauer and Emma West won their singles matches handily Tuesday as Knoch defeated Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, 4-1.

The Knights (5-1, 4-0) host Valley on Thursday.

Natalie Welsh continued her strong showing early this season by shooting a 37 at Rittswood Golf Course.

The effort helped the Planets topple Indiana 179-209, improving Mars to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in Section 1-AAA.

Girls Soccer

Kaylee Comporatore led Freeport with four goals and an assist in a 10-2 drubbing of Riverview.

Sidney Shemanski added two goals and two assists, while Carlie Giori, Abby Bastaja, Kaitlyn Ritter and Natalie Doerr each added a goal.

Jenna Manke and Zoe Fair each had three saves in the win.

Boys Soccer

Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Robb both scored for Knoch in a 2-1 defeat of rival Mars.

D.J. Carter scored for the Planets.

Freeport 7, Burrell 2 — Bryce Hanby scored five times in this rout of the host Bucs.

Hunter Hardin added a pair of goals for Freeport (2-0, 1-0).

Elk County Catholic 3, Karns City 0 — The Gremlins will look to rebound against Clarion-Limestone on Thursday.

Cross Country

Sharpsville 18, Slippery Rock 38 (boys); Sharpsville 19, Slippery Rock 44 (girls) — Tim Holtz placed fifth for the Rocket boys in 20 minutes, 57 seconds. Sharpsville's William Divens won with a time of 20:35. Other top 10 finishers for Slippery Rock were Kenneth Buickel (6th in 21:08) and Harold Domville (9th in 22:16).

Harley Pflugh placed second for the Rocket girls in 24:03. Leshui Chen was ninth in 27:29. Sharpsville's Lauren Mehler took first in 22:48.

Girls Volleyball

Heidi Gross tallied four kills and three assists as Butler opened the season with a sweep at New Castle.

The Golden Tornado dominated by scores of 25-7, 25-9 and 25-11.

A-C Valley 3, North Clarion 0 — Olivia Boocks managed 12 kills and Josey Terwilliger 11 kills to pace the Falcons.

Cassie Schwalm and Kylee Eaton both added seven kills, Emily Wetzel 10 assists, Sydney Rankin and Kaylie Merwin nine assists apiece.

A-C Valley defeated the Wolves by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-12.

The Falcons also won the junior varsity match, 2-0.

Union 3, Venango Catholic 0 — Hannah Atzeni led the Damsels with 12 aces and 19 assists.

Frankee Remmick contributed nine aces and eight kills.

Union won by scores of 25-6, 25-4 and 25-10.
