A Butler County woman will be facing additional criminal charges in relation to her alleged overdose — which resulted in her unborn baby being born prematurely delivered — after a county judge ordered a new preliminary hearing following court proceedings on Wednesday.

Judge William Shaffer heard arguments regarding the case against Kasey R. Dischman, 30, who was initially charged with felony aggravated assault of an unborn child following her alleged June 22 overdose. Dischman was formally arraigned on that charge on Tuesday.

The Butler County District Attorney's Office sought to include additional charges — misdemeanor endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and possession of a controlled substance — based on evidence that Dischman's 6-year-old daughter was also present in the house at the time of the overdose, and that a hypodermic needle was found there.

Dischman's attorney, Public Defender Joseph Smith reported that he was unaware of the condition of the child at this time, but at the time of the preliminary hearing, he was informed that the baby was improving.
