Marion Twp. shed burns

Firefighters from multiple companies respond to a call for a shed fire on a property in Marion Township. A pole building is salvageable.
Homeowner was trying to kill bees with torch

MARION TWP — A homeowner attempting to kill bees with a propane torch started a fire in an equipment shed Thursday, authorities said.

The shed was destroyed and a pole building was damaged in the fire, which was reported around 1:55 p.m. on the 500-block of Boyers Road.

Firefighters had the fire under control in about seven minutes, and no one was injured, Marion Township Fire Chief Joe Fitzgerald said.

The shed and its contents — including a riding lawn mower and a motorcycle — were destroyed, while the pole building was salvageable. Fire crews were concerned about the blaze spreading to a nearby wooden barn, but were able to protect it, Fitzgerald said.

The Harrisville, Pine Township, Grove City, West Sunbury, Slippery Rock and North Washington fire departments provided mutual aid.
