5:29 a.m. Tuesday — A bicyclist was injured when he crashed on Rustic Ridge Lane in Summit Township. The man, believed to be in his 30s, told emergency crews that he lost control of his bike when he moved to avoid a vehicle.

Police were called but an accident report was not immediately available.

The Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service were called to assist.

6:30 p.m. Monday — Stephen A. Heller, 18, of Brady Township was arrested for felony assault after he allegedly broke another man’s jaw during an altercation at a Slippery Rock Township home.

Heller was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, defiant trespass and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

Police accused the defendant of punching Braden Croll during an argument in the driveway at the home of Croll’s father on Kiester House Road. Heller later admitted punching the victim, according to court documents.

Croll was taken to Grove City Medical Center where he was diagnosed with a broken jaw, police said. He was subsequently taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was to undergo surgery for his injuries.

3 p.m. Sunday — Robert P. Burgard, 32, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his wife, Anne Burgard, during a domestic dispute at their home on Main Street in Callery.

The victim told police that she and her husband got into an argument after she returned home from a friend’s house. Burgard said his wife started the argument over the couple’s financial problems, according to court documents.

The defendant admitted that he pushed his wife to the floor, where she struck her head. The victim recounted that she hit her head on a television stand, which she fell into after being pushed.

Police said Anne Burgard’s shirt was blood covered, and she was bleeding from the left side of her head and face.

Burgard was arraigned on charges of reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment. He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

11:29 p.m. Friday — A Westmoreland County man was arrested for drunken driving after a hit-and-run crash on Old Route 422 near Route 422 in Summit Township.

James L. Fye III, 25, of Greensburg is charged with driving under the influence, careless driving, disregarding traffic lanes, hit-and-run and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.

Police said that when they got to the wreck, all they saw were emergency crews, who reported seeing two women “stumbling up the roadway,” according to court documents.

Troopers searched the area and found the women along with Fye, whose breath reeked of alcohol. One of the women said the three of them had just left a nearby trailer park and were in the car. Both women identified Fye as the driver. The defendant admitted that he had been drinking earlier that night, documents said. He refused to take a breath test.

Fye was later arraigned on charges and released on his own recognizance.

8 p.m. Aug. 8 — Marissa N. Ehrman, 24, of Summit Township was arrested after she allegedly shoplifted baby formula at the Clearview Mall Giant Eagle store in Center Township.

A witness told police he saw Ehrman place two containers of Similac Advance, valued at $56, into her purse. She was later stopped and admitted that she intended to take the merchandise, court documents said.

Ehrman, who has two prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft, and later released on her own recognizance.

1:02 a.m. Aug. 6 — Jason Lee Belson, 31, of Concord Township was arrested for DUI on Route 8 in Clay Township. Police said they pulled him over after they saw his pickup truck cross the double yellow line and fog line “multiple times.”

Belson smelled badly of alcohol and he admitted he was coming from a bar where he had two beers, according to court documents. He subsequently showed signs of impairment during field sobriety testing.

A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.139 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to DUI, Belson is charged with disregarding traffic lanes.

3:57 p.m. Tuesday — Nicholas R. Hadley, 28, of Freeport touched off a five-vehicle chain-reaction crash when the pickup truck he was driving rear-ended a car on Route 28 north just before exit 14 in Fawn Township.

The truck continued northbound and lost its front passenger side wheel, which hit a sport utility vehicle driven by Carol J. Macura, 70, of Tarentum.

Larry D. Allen, 63, of Morrisdale, Clearfield County, who was driving a pickup, became distracted by the unfolding crash and rear-ended the SUV.

The car, driven by Andrea M. Slaughenhaupft, 54, of Natrona Heights, that Hadley had hit, was again struck by Hadley’s truck on the right shoulder of the road. The car drifted forward and hit a sport utility vehicle driven by Andreas Pausch, 27, of Pittsburgh, who had pulled off onto the right shoulder after seeing the crash behind him.

No one was injured. Police said Hadley faces a ticket for driving too fast for conditions.
