Butler County to conduct water tests

Butler County will be testing the water for all its buildings to ensure the lead content is not too high.

The county commissioners this morning hired the company Gannett Fleming to collect water samples for testing for an amount not to exceed $2,000.

County solicitor Mike English said it is unlikely there is an issue due to the supply in county buildings coming from public water systems and not wells.

However, he said the county wanted to be proactive.

English cautioned people to not panic if lead is found in any county water due to it being found in all water.

He added if any site is found to have to much lead in the water, the problems would be minimal due to the health impact resulting from long-term exposure.

English stressed the testing is not required by law.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
