Misguided justice

I read the article in the Aug. 11 Butler Eagle about the suspected prostitutes in Cranberry and their bail of $250,000. Then I read on page 11 about the man who assaulted a 20-month-old little girl and his bail was $25,000.

It seems to me that the more heinous crime was the assault of the little girl. When adults pay a prostitute for whatever service they want, they are choosing to do that. That 20-month-old little girl had no choice. As far as I’m concerned, his bail should have been a million dollars, and even that would not have been enough.

Our district attorney is getting $100,000 to $250,000 for drug dealer bails — and again, the people buying those drugs chose to do so.

This is not to say that I think the bail for prostitutes and dealers should be lessened. However, I think something is terribly wrong with our justice system.

I had always thought they were to protect the innocent. Who could be more innocent than a child?

I believe her grandmother was right when she said her granddaughter was “let down by everyone in the justice system.”
