Heavy rain causes accident, power outages

BUTLER TWP — A one-vehicle accident late Friday resulted in damaged front steps and a porch of a residence on Whitestown Road, according to township police.

A man was driving a red Chevrolet Equinox around the bend of a rain-slicked road and hydroplaned before colliding into the front steps and porch, severely damaging both, before rolling over.

The driver, whose name was not available, was not injured.

William Silvio, who lives at the residence, said he heard what he thought was lightning striking his front porch.

He went outside to find his steps and porch damaged. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed.

Butler Township police, Butler Ambulance Service and Butler Township Fire District 3 were at the scene.

The heavy rainfall also caused power outages around the county with about 2,000 customers out in Butler city and 2,127 customers in Butler Township out late Friday night, according to West Penn Power.
