Courage

This past spring, I attended a track and field meet at Grove City High School to see my nephew compete. The surprise was the presence and participation of handicapped students. They were there with their families and competed in a variety of events, cheered greatly by everyone.

Those handicapped students and their families have come to mind because of the health care debate. Most, if not all, of those students and their families get health care support through Medicaid. What happens to them when Medicaid gets seriously cut? How will these families manage? How will these children survive? When the health care bill collapsed in the Senate, the president stated we should just let health care fail. That would impact 54 million people in the country and devastate the health care industry. I do not see how this makes America great again.

It is way past time for Republicans and Democrats to sit down together and take the time to understand the needs, wants, intended and unintended consequences of the actions they take. I applaud Sens. Collins, Caputo and Murkowski, who have listened to their constituents and who have the courage to stand up for a practical, sensible, logical and reasonable discussion to find a better way forward for health care coverage and the health care industry.
