3 campers destroyed, 2 damaged in overnight fire

A fire at Moraine Camplands in Brady Township badly damaged or destroyed five trailers early this morning.

“It looks lie a war zone,” said Chief Nathan Wulff of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department in the blaze’s aftermath.

Two of the campers were believed to be occupied when the fire broke out shortly before 4 a.m. but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The state police fire marshal has been called to investigate.

The initial 911 call came in at 3:56 a.m. for a fire at one of the campers at the campgrounds on Staff Road, about 1½ miles west of Route 8.

“But then it spread,” Wulff said. “The campers are packed in real tight, about 10 feet apart.

Several trailers were in flames by the time the fire crew arrived.

Slippery Rock, Prospect and West Sunbury volunteer firefighters were part of the first response.
