Butler Twisters move on in 13-under Pony tourney

MCCANDLESS — The Butler Health System Twisters advanced to the regional round of the Pony 13-under World Series recently by winning a tournament at Vincentian High School.

Butler defeated Canon McMillan, North Allegheny and Mars last weekend and was scheduled to play Strongsville (Ohio) in Zone tourney play Thursday night in Boardman, Ohio.

Trailing North Allegheny 14-9 with two outs in the final inning, Butler rallied to tie the game and force extra innings. Ethan Trettel’s bunt pushed CJ Singleton across the plate in the eighth inning with the winning run in a 15-14 victory.

Four Butler players hit .500 or better in the tournament. Colin Patterson and Hayden Thompson both hit .571 while Cooper Baxter hit .538 and Noah Delano .500.

Starting pitchers Baxter and Tyler Rekich combined for 20 strikeouts in the tournament.
