Traffic stop leads to drug arrests
BUTLER TWP — Township officers seized $1,650 in currency and suspected drugs during a traffic stop Sunday.
William S. Stuteville, 27, of Butler was arrested for felony drug possession. He remains in the Butler County Prison. A 17-year-old boy with Stuteville is also facing charges in juvenile court.
Butler Township police said they stopped Stuteville shortly after 1:30 a.m. following a traffic light violation on Hansen Avenue. He admitted he did not have a valid license.
Officers also smelled burned and raw marijuana while speaking to the defendant. A city K-9 unit later indicated an illegal substance was inside, according to court documents.
A search of Stuteville allegedly turned a bank envelope containing a baggie of suspected cocaine.
In the car on the rear passenger floor board, documents said, officers found a large plastic bag that contained a Ziploc bag with suspected marijuana.
Police said they also seized a digital scale and the currency, which were between the driver's seat and center console.
Stuteville was arraigned on two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, both felonies.
Additionally, he was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of corruption of minors, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount of marijuana
He also was cited for driving with a suspended license and the traffic signal violation.
Stuteville was placed in the county prison on $30,000 bail following arraignment. His preliminary hearing is set for 8:45 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the boy, who they did not identify, is charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession in Butler County juvenile court.
