[naviga:h3]SRU track lands 3 Academic A-A’s[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Three members of the Slippery Rock University track and field program have received Academic All-American honors.

Senior All-PSAC heptathlete Sabrina Anderson carries a 3.91 as an exercise science major. Senior hammer and javelin thrower David Reinhardt carries a 3.76 as an exercise science major and made Academic All-American for a third straight year.

Senior sprinter Jacob VanHouten carries a 3.56 as an exercise science major.

[naviga:h3]Pa. hunters safe during 2016 season[/naviga:h3]

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania hunters had one of their safest years on record in 2016.

There were only 25 hunting-related shooting incidents statewide in 2016. Only 2015 (23) ever had a lower number.

For only the second time on record, there was no hunting-related fatality during the entire year. The only other year that occurred was in 2012.

[naviga:h3]Local Westminster athletes all-academic[/naviga:h3]

NEW WILMINGTON — Five Butler County area athletes competing at Westminster College have been named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll for the spring semester.

Athletes must have earned a grade point average of 3.6 or higher during their semester of competition to achieve this honor.

The honorees include Grove City High graduate Hailey Hall in track and field, Knoch graduate Katie Jones in swimming, Freeport graduates Emily Lindsey in softball and Ian Miller in track and field and Seneca Valley graduate Jacob Staub in lacrosse.

[naviga:h3]Firecracker 100 prelim rained out[/naviga:h3]

BUFFALO TWP — Heavy rains forced the cancellation of Friday night’s Firecracker 100 preliminary show at Lernerville Speedway.

The postponed Thursday show will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sarver oval. The stands and pit area will be cleared at the conclusion of that show.

The Firecracker 100 will be held Saturday night as scheduled. Gates will open 45 minutes after the conclusion of the afternoon event.

Tickets for Thursday’s and Friday’s shows will be honored for the Saturday afternoon show.

[naviga:h3]BlueSox/Paints game postponed[/naviga:h3]

Friday’s Prospect League baseball game between the Butler BlueSox and Chillicothe Paints, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Kelly Automotive Park, was postponed due to rain.

It will be made up as part of a doubleheader July 11.
