A free Outdoor Discovery series at Alameda Park, conducted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, will present “Mad Science of Pittsburgh” tonight and a program by Playthings Etc. on June 29. The programs take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays through Aug. 17 in the Carousel Shelter. Call 724-284-5383.

Succop Nature Park, formerly the Succop Conservancy, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, has nature walks at 9 a.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Call 412-963-6100 or visit www.aswp.org.

Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township will be the site of Creature Feature-The Bear Facts from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Moraine Outdoor Center, North Shore. International Mud Day will be from noon to 3 p.m. July 1 at Lakeview Beach, North Shore. Call 724-368-3612 or 724-368-8811.

Nautical Nature, the pontoon boat at Moraine State Park, operates cruises on Lake Arthur at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. For reservations, call 724-368-9185.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will host Celebrate the Bloom! Summer Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 29. Call 724-794-6011 or visit www.celebratethebloom.wordpress.com. Jennings is open regularly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

REGION

McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, just over the county line into Lawrence County off Route 422, is open through Labor Day from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily except closed Mondays. Interpretive tours are available at 1 and 2 p.m. Call 724-368-8811.
