Regarding “Trump, Pence sought for VA event” (June 8, Page 1). U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly sent invitations to have President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence speak at the opening ceremony at the new VA Butler Healthcare Health Care facility in Center Township on Aug. 29.

As a veteran and retired VA Butler Healthcare employee, I was shocked and dismayed. Trump has disrespected veterans, women, disabled people and people of other nationalities. This was obvious during the campaign. His overall character and behavior is shameful and embarrassing. He doesn’t represent the true values our veterans deserve.

I am very happy about the new VA facility. It will provide our veterans with important health care and treatment. However, Trump and Kelly had little or nothing to do with the construction and placement of the new facility.

Trump’s presidency has been full of scandals, investigations and possible ties to the Russians. As commander in chief, he is a total embarrassment.

Come on, Mike Kelly. The people of Butler and our veterans deserve better. To bring Trump here at taxpayer expense is disgraceful and dishonors the sacrifice veterans have made.
