Man taken to hospital after accident on Hooker Road

CONCORD TWP — One person was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries Friday morning after a two-vehicle crash on the 900 block of Hooker Road.

Chicora Fire Chief Cody Craig said that when emergency responders arrived on scene they found one man — identified by a family member as John Smith, 59, of Concord Township — pinned inside his Dodge Ram pickup truck. Craig said firefighters had to cut the door off the truck to get Smith out of the vehicle, and he was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unspecified, minor injuries.

Smith's wife, Arlene, said that her husband was complaining of hip pain and was placed in a neck brace before EMTs took him from the scene of the accident.

Smith said she and her husband were on their way to Gaslight Campground in Emlenton on Friday when John's pickup, which was traveling east on Hooker road behind a camper driven by Arlene, was hit by a Honda Civic traveling west on the road just after 9 a.m. The impact pushed Smith's truck into a stone wall just off the road.

State police, who are investigating the crash, said they suspect speed and wet roads were factors in the crash. They did not immediately release the name of the Honda's driver, who Craig said refused medical treatment on scene and did not appear to have been injured in the crash.
