Rocket softball falls, 7-6

The Slippery Rock High softball team took No. 1 seed General McLane to the brink.

But a single by Alma Mamani plated the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to end a wild game and the Rockets’ season in the District 10 4A quarterfinals Tuesday everning at Penn State Behrend.

The game went back and forth. Slippery Rock (14-7) led 5-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Lancers responded with three runs of their own to take a 6-5 lead.

The Rockets tied it again in the top of the sixth.

After a scoreless seventh, Brynn Horner made a diving catch in the bottom of the eighth to keep the Rockets alive, but Mamani followed with a single to end the game.

General McLane will play Grove City in the semifinals at noon Thursday at Penn State Behrend.

Grove City 6, Warren 5 — The Eagles (11-8) held off a seventh-inning rally by the Dragons to advance to the District 10 4A semifinals.

Grove City led 6-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but Warren scored four times. The Eagles were able to get out of it.

DuBois Central Catholic 12, A-C Valley 1 — The defending District 9 Class A champion Cardinals scored seven runs in the second inning.

Emily Wetzel singled twice and scored a run for A-C Valley and Cami McNany doubled.
