LIGHTING THE TORCH
A simulated Olympic torch is lighted May 19, 1984, when the Special Olympics opened at Butler High School. Holding the torch are Dr. Robert Wheatall, chairman of the Special Olympics for Butler Area Jaycees, and Paul Phillips. At left, is Wendell Hume, deputy regional director of the Order of Alhambra, which supported the program. Also taking part in the ceremony were, Kirk Patten, left, and Bobbie Jo Fair.
