CRANBERRY TWP — Polly Shaw of Portersville will be available to sign copies of her book “Moraine State Park” at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Barnes & Noble, 1000 Cranberry Square Drive.

Shaw has selected images from park archives, two park support groups, local amateur photographers, and her personal collection to tell the history of the immediate area, including the Western Allegheny Railroad.

PORTERSVILLE — Portersville Steam Show’s Spring Gas Up takes place Saturday and Sunday at the grounds off Route 19.

Gate opens at 9 a.m. both days. Admission is $5; children age 11 and younger are admitted free.

Attractions include antique cars, crafts, exhibits, a flea market, food, old tractors, train rides, music and demonstrations of gas engines and saw milling, among others.

BUTLER TWP — A free Outdoor Discovery series will be offered at Alameda Park, conducted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department.

The programs take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays from June 15 to Aug. 17 in the Carousel Shelter.

Butler Outdoor Club will host an Outdoor Extravaganza over Memorial Day weekend.

Activities May 26 to 29 will include workshops, excursions, children’s events, contests, games, entertainment, a gear exchange/flea market, and on Saturday evening a pig roast.

Base Camp is at Breakneck Campground near McConnells Mill and Moraine state parks, but activities and trips go various places.

PITTSBURGH — The EQT Children’s Theater Festival, a project of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, will be presented Friday through Sunday in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.

SHARON — The National Button Accordion Festival is May 26, 27 and 28 in Mercer County.

Featured instruments at the Apollo Maennerchor Club will include the diatonic button accordion and the piano accordion. Many musical genres will be showcased that guests can dance to, including polkas, waltzes, country, boogie woogie, Texas two-step, foxtrot and Latin beats.

Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. May 26, noon to 10 p.m. May 27, and 12:30 to 9 p.m. May 28. Admission is $10 Friday and $12 Saturday and Sunday. Weekend passes are $25, and children under 13 are admitted free.

[naviga:h3]Meadowcroft open for season[/naviga:h3]

AVELLA, Washington County — Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village has opened for the season.

Meadowcroft includes the Rockshelter, site of early human habitation, plus a 16th century eastern woodland Indian village and a historic village featuring elements of everyday family life in the mid-19th century.

Throughout May, Meadowcroft is open Saturdays, from noon to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.

Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, and $7 for children 6 to 17.

FOP presents Charlie Daniels

The Charlie Daniels Band will headline the 43rd Country Music Show July 16 at the Indiana County Fairgrounds’ Mack Park, 752 S. 6th St.
