BUTLER TWP — Police are seeking a woman who struck a township officer Tuesday evening during an apparent getaway at the Point Plaza on New Castle Road.

The fleeing vehicle apparently brushed against Patrolman Rachel Dovidio or pinned her between another parked vehicle shortly before 7 p.m., but the officer was not injured, authorities said.

Butler Township police were saying little about the investigation, including the identity of the driver of the gray Chevrolet Cobalt.

Police later found the car, which had been abandoned at an undisclosed location in the township.

The car was seized and secured at the police department's garage. Investigators acknowledged they would likely seek a search warrant for it.

“The investigation is still developing,” said police Detective Sgt. David Fish.

An employee told the Butler Eagle that the woman wanted by police initially came into the store and asked to use the photo lab.

The employee, who did not give her name, described the woman as appearing impaired, possibly on drugs.

A full report will appear in today's Butler Eagle.
