Rock baseball clinches title

SRU wraps up conference with DH sweep

Slippery Rock University's baseball team clinched a PSAC Tournament berth Friday by sweeping a doubleheader from Seton Hill at Kelly Automotive Park.

The Rock (25-17, 16-9) rallied late to defeat the Griffins 3-2 in the first game and held on for a 5-4 triumph in the nightcap.

SRU is a half-game in front of Indiana (Pa.) for second place in the PSAC West with two regular season conference games remaining.

The Rock pitching quartet of Alex Pantuso, Grove City graduate Matt Gordon, Butler graduate Wyatt Daugherty and Josh Coleman held Seton Hill (31-17, 15-11) to six runs and 12 hits in 14 innings. The Griffins entered the twinbill leading the PSAC in runs scored.

Tyler Walters had four hits, two runs and three RBI in the two games. He hit his 10th home run of the season and has 52 RBI. Both figures rank second in the PSAC.

Friday marked Senior Day as well for The Rock's four seniors: Seneca Valley graduate Carson Kessler, James Divosevic, Coleman and Preston Falascino.

Christian Porterfield's two-run single in the sixth inning was the winning hit in Game 1. Daugherty got the save for Pantuso, inducing a game-ending double play with the bases loaded.

Walters hit a three-run homer and Joe Campagna drilled a two-run shot in Game 2.

The two teams were scheduled to meet again in a doubleheader Saturday in Greensburg.
