Ian Sleigh

Ian Sleigh, 17, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout March 19 with Troop 400 of Mars.

He is the son of Mike and Anita Sleigh of Valencia.

For his Eagle Scout project, Ian painted and dedicated a building in Elizabeth Township to Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas Checque, a U.S. Navy Seal who was killed in action in 2012 in Afghanistan.

A scout of 11 years, Ian earned 33 merit badges and his Arrow of Light. He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow.

During his career, Ian has served as junior assistant scout master and senior patrol leader.

Ian is a sophomore at Mars High School. He plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy for engineering with aspirations of advancing to a career in the Navy or Marine Corps.
