Freeport scout earns Eagle rank

Richard Henry

Richard Henry, 18, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 554 of Freeport.

He is the son of Kenneth and Mindy Henry of South Buffalo Township and the brother of Loryn Henry.

For his Eagle Scout project, Richard spent two years building the Freeport Children’s Memorial, which commemorates children that have died in the Freeport area. The memorial consists of four brick paths bordered by four quadrants of riverbed rock with a granite bench at the intersection, inscribed with a passage from scripture. Guests walking along the paths will see 90 names etched on the bricks.

Richard started scouting with Cub Scout Pack 556 in 2006. He has the Arrow of the Light and 33 merit badges.

During his scouting career, Richard has served in the positions of senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and lifeguard.

A senior at Freeport Area Senior High School, Richard plans to attend Penn State Behrend this Fall with a major in computer engineering.
