SR woman gets fines, restitution for assault

A Slippery Rock woman charged with assaulting another woman at her home was sentenced to fines and restitution in Butler County Court on Wednesday.

Kelly L. Gray, 43, was sentenced to a $100 fine and $2,606 restitution by county Judge Timothy McCune after pleading guilty to summary disorderly conduct in March.

Gray was initially charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor simple assault after an incident on Wilkes Avenue in Butler on June 19.

Her attorney, Michael Zunder, told the court that they disagreed with the restitution amount and requested a hearing on the matter, which will be scheduled following the filing of a motion within 10 days.

Butler police said Gray forced her way into the home and attacked another woman, who suffered numerous minor injuries.

Police said the homeowner was at the residence at about 10:30 p.m. when Gray knocked at the door before charging in and attacking the woman.

Gray then placed her hands around the woman's neck and squeezed, according to a police affidavit. The victim told police that she was unable to breathe and feared for her life.

She eventually was able to get the suspect's hands off her neck and cried out for her father. She also told Gray that she was calling police and she ran off.

Police said the victim later drove herself to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment.
