Suspected money-snatcher caught, jailed

Charles Perkins

BUTLER TWP — It only took police several minutes Thursday afternoon to nab a suspected robber accused of plucking money out a woman’s hand outside the Lyndora Hotel.

And for his take, just $10, Charles J. Perkins, 22, of Butler ended up in jail on $75,000 bail.

Butler Township police said the victim was standing outside the hotel on Main Street about 4:20 p.m. where she was counting money that she had just taken out of her purse.

“(The suspect) came by and snatched the money out of her hand and ran,” said police Lt. Matthew Pearson, “It was a crime of opportunity.”

The woman, who yelled for help, was not hurt. At least one witness saw the robber running under the Picklegate Crossing.

Officers got to the scene and four minutes later had Perkins in handcuffs. He was caught in the area of the Picklegate Crossing and the Pullman Square shopping plaza in Butler.

He was arraigned on charges of robbery and receiving stolen property. He is being held in the Butler County Prison.
