Tours of station set during New Year

The new Adams Area Fire District station will be open for touring during the Mars New Year event May 6. The 17,500 square-foot space includes sleeping quarters for 13 firefighters.

ADAMS TWP — Those attending the upcoming Mars New Year event will also have the opportunity to tour the new Adams Area Fire District station on Route 228.

Township Supervisor Russ Ford said at Monday night's supervisors meeting that the station on Route 228 just east of the intersection with Mars-Valencia Road is 98 percent complete.

Ford said because the completion coincides with the Mars New Year event, buses will be provided downtown from 1 to 4 on Saturday, May 6 to transport people to the station for an open house and then back to the festival.

The fire district open house will include tours of the entire 17,500 square-foot building, which includes sleeping quarters for 13 firefighters, administrative space, various wall materials in the truck bay for training, and other features.

Firefighters and fire district officers will be on hand to answer questions.

Ford did not have the total cost of the new fire station as of Tuesday.

He said the new station will serve the community for generations.

“In my eyes it's a major asset to the township and a major safety factor for the community.” Ford said.

The all-volunteer fire district has 20 firefighters with medical certifications, 18 firefighters, three junior firefighters, four fire police, five associate members with medical certifications, three associate firefighters, and nine company members who complete tasks other than fire fighting, according to the district's website.
