BC3 softball wins WPCC

Slippery Rock High graduate Alexis Vogan and Knoch grad Jesi Reed each had big days as the Butler County Community College softball team won the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) championship with a pair of wins Saturday.

The Pioneers (17-3) routed Garrett College in the first game 15-0. Vogan doubled, singled and drove in three while Reed doubled, singled and drove in four.

Karns City grad Ashley Coon tripled.

Reed was the winning pitcher in the championship game, a 7-4 win over the Community College of Allegheny County.

Reed also doubled.

Vogan doubled and singled.

Nicole Houk hit her seventh home run of the season against CCAC and also doubled and drove in three.

Butler grad Noel Pfabe doubled and singled.

The Pioneers will now head to the regional tournament Friday and Saturday at Westmoreland Community College to play an opponent to be announced.

In other action:

Slippery Rock (17-20, 7-9) split a doubleheader with Seton Hill, losing 7-0 and winning 5-0. Emily Nagle had five hits in the twinbill to reach a single-season school record 63 hits for the campaign.

Butler graduate Caitlin Baxter had a sacrifice fly in the second game. SRU hosts Edinboro at 2:30 p.m. Friday for Senior Day.

The Rock split a twinbill with California (Pa.) Sunday at Critchfield Park, winning 12-1 before losing the nightcap, 8-3. SRU (21-14, 12-8) took three of four from the Vulcans over the weekend.

SRU stands alone in second place in the PSAC West with eight games remaining.

Seneca Valley graduate Carson Kessler had a double, single and three RBI in Sunday's victory. Christian Porterfield had four hits in the doubleheader and Mitchell Wood extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Butler graduate Wyatt Daugherty pitched three innings of relief in the second game, allowing one run.

The Rock travels to Gannon Friday.
