Butler man charged with cruelty to animals

Adam R. Took, 30, of Butler was charged with cruelty to animals for allegedly abusing a pet cat.

A veterinarian notified authorities March 18 after the cat was taken to her for treatment of swelling to the head. The veterinarian also learned that the cat had been diagnosed Feb. 25 at an animal hospital in Summit Township.

Took said the cat had accidentally dumped paint on herself, according to court documents.

The cat was re-examined March 13 at the same veterinary hospital, documents said, and found it had more injuries including fractures to the ribs, left paw and tail.

Took told authorities that the cat injured herself when it got caught under a stove.

Police in their criminal complaint against the defendant noted that the cat “sustained multiple injuries and fractures during a few week period not consistent with accidents.”
