Let's roll, church

The words “Let’s roll” were immortalized by one man who led others to confront evil. They were up against overwhelming odds. They set aside differences for the greater good.

Our society is under attack more now than ever before. Winning seems to be impossible. The enemy is killing people and violence is becoming common.

The rising death toll appalls us. We demand that somebody do something. We contact our elected representatives, the police and justice system. We use new strategies for saving lives. Still, the death toll rises by this insidious enemy’s death blow. And our mourning increases.

Our county commissioners have responded by uniting those who can develop solutions. Recently, members of law enforcement put aside differences to work with recovering addicts.

But where are the people of God? This is a spiritual war requiring spiritual action. The losses go beyond physical life and the economic impact. The consequences are much bigger. Souls are being lost. This is the church’s call to united action.

Christ told his followers to collect the souls he bought and paid for. We celebrate his payment every year. It is time to model it.

According to the Bible, our first duty is to love our Creator. Our second duty is to love others as ourselves. So we feed people. We clothe people. We visit them when they are sick or in prison. We help people with housing. But what are we doing to fight the enemy who is taking souls into eternity?

The Body of Christ must become a united front. Our divisions dilute our spiritual effectiveness. Let’s step over the sectarian lines that divide us. Put aside differences and connect as allies to serve together. Work as a living spiritual body. We can stand together.

We need sergeants to mobilize the troops that meet in their barracks (churches) each week. We need footmen to work on a plan of spiritual action. We need to unite in prayer. We need to re-form Christ’s body.

Divided, the church is weak and ineffective. But united in prayer and purpose, the spiritual leaders of this county can defeat the enemy. It is time to roll. So let’s.
