Champs win in Lernerville opener

BUFFALO TWP — Two defending track champions won their respective features Friday night as Lernerville Speedway opened its 2017 season.

Mat Williamson of St. Catharines, Ontario, beat out Leechburg’s Brian Swartzlander to win the Modified feature. Corey McPherson of Tarentum took the checkered flag in the Pro Stocks feature with Kittanning’s Joe Zambotti finishing second.

Other feature winners were Logan Wagner of Bedford in the Sprints and Rocky Kugel of East Liverpool, Ohio, in the RUSH Sportsman Modifieds. The latter division made a guest appearance on opening night.

The Late Model division will debut at Lernerville next Friday.

George Hobaugh Jr. of Chicora won his Sprint heat race while Rick Regalski of Slippery Rock won his Modified heat race. The top local finisher in a feature was Sarver’s Carl Bowser, who took third in the Sprints.

There were 91 cars in the pits.
