MIDDLESEX TWP — The Middlesex Township Police Department is selling T-shirts to raise funds for the care and maintenance of Mibo, the department’s K-9 officer.

Mibo is a 3½-year-old German shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix who is handled by Officer Mark Heider.

The canine’s specialty is explosives and firearms detection, but Mibo also is trained for patrol, where he can assist in a foot pursuit, sweep a building for a suspect in a forced entry or security alarm call, search a building in a bomb threat, or simply use his presence to give his human counterparts the upper hand in an escalating situation.

The township supervisors approved Mibo in October.

The shirts, which cost $15 each, are for sale at the township building, 133 Browns Hill Road.
