Tornado earn 1st section win

Moniteau's Hall shatters record in 100 hurdles

Butler’s baseball team earned a much-needed section victory Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Tornado plated six runs in the top of the second inning and never trailed in a 9-7 Section 1-6A triumph over Central Catholic at La Roche College.

It was the first section win of the season for Butler (6-4, 1-3).

Dallas Hays went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two batted in. Connor Ollio added a single, double and collected three RBI.

Cade Negley was credited with the win on the mound, striking out seven and walking four in 4 2/3 innings.

The Tornado will face Seneca Valley, which also earned its first section victory of the year Wednesday, at Kelly Automotive Park Friday night.

Danny Williams also doubled for the Rockets (6-2).

Mars 3, Fox Chapel 2 — Foxes’ pitcher Nick McRandal walked in two runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Planets prevailed in this Section 1-5A matchup.

Mars (5-4, 4-1) received one run batted in from Tim Rouda, Frank Craska and Jack Anderson.

Dylan Rotz picked up the win with six strikeouts and three walks in a complete game.

Softball

Emma Guinee came off the bench to hit a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth, lifting Mars to a 6-4 home win over Oakland Catholic.

Lindy Lee was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and walking two in seven innings in the Planets’ first victory of the season.

Cami McNany led the team’s 13-hit attack with a single, two doubles and a run batted in. Kelsie Terwilliger singled twice, doubled and drove in a run.

Track and Field

Samantha Hall shattered the Moniteau school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.44 seconds as the Warriors swept A-C Valley (88-62) and Clarion-Limestone (103-47).

Hall broke the previous school mark of 16.13 in the event. She also won the 300 hurdles.

Emma Fox of A-C Valley also set a school record in the 100 hurdles, finishing with a time of 15.8.

The Moniteau boys also earned a sweep of A-C Valley and Clarion-Limestone.

Jake Patton won both hurdle events and Dalton Anderson captured the javelin and the high jump for the Warriors.

Trey Miles won the 400 run and high jump for Union in a 79-68 win over Cranberry.

The Golden Knights fell to Redbank Valley, 98-52.

The Union girls suffered a sweep at the hands of Cranberry (91-51) and Redbank Valley (124-20).
