WHEELING, W.Va. — Butler graduate Jamison Smith, a sophomore attacker on the Wheeling Jesuit University men’s lacrosse team, scored two goals recently in the squad’s 8-7 upset win over No. 19 Lake Erie College.

Smith has scored five goals in his last three games and Wheeling Jesuit (5-7) is riding a four-game winning streak.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock High School graduate and Slippery Rock University senior Ryan Thompson has been named PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Thompson shattered his own SRU record in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3 minutes, 46.34 seconds at the Bison Outdoor Classic last weekend. He finished second overall in the event.

His time was less than one second off the PSAC record.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The NCAA has awarded coveted men's basketball tournament games and other events to North Carolina, effectively ending a boycott that helped force the state to repeal parts of a law that limited protections for LGBT people.

The governing body announced decisions for events through 2022, two weeks after the NCAA said it had “reluctantly” agreed to consider North Carolina again for hosting duties.

It had stripped North Carolina of seven championship events for the past sports season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy underwent a minor heart procedure in San Diego, forcing him to miss the team's two-game series against the Royals.

Bochy, who has a history of heart issues, had been complaining of discomfort in recent days.
