A strong odor of alcohol came from the vehicle, and Kaechele admitted he had been drinking, police said. A search, according to court documents, later turned up a bag of marijuana in the truck.

Kaechele is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and public drunkenness.

Wednesday — A four-time convicted shoplifter was arrested for allegedly committing a similar crime last month at a home improvement store on Route 228.

Stephen D. Wise, 33, of Ambridge, Beaver County, is accused of removing a tool battery charger, valued at $104.94, at Lowe’s and then taking it to the store’s customer service desk for a return.

But when he presented his state identification card, the alleged fraudulent return was denied. The store’s database, according to court documents, showed the suspect “has executed an excessive number of returns of merchandise without receipts.

Police said Wise, after being informed of the store’s findings, walked out the automatic, entrance-only doors — with the charger. A store employee confronted the suspected shoplifter and grabbed the merchandise away from him. Wise fled and drove away in a sport utility vehicle.

The employee recognized the suspect from previous shoplifting incidents, documents said.

Police also noted in the charges that Wise has four prior convictions for retail theft and he is on probation in Beaver County.

He later refused to submit to a blood test or a formal breath test at the barracks.

He was released but failed to appear for his preliminary arraignment and hearing, which prompted the bench warrant.
