JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley Raiderthon raised more than $22,000 last weekend for the Miracle League of Southwestern PA.

More than 100 students stayed on their feet from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday to raise money for the Miracle League, which gives children and adults with physical and mental disabilities a chance to play organized baseball.

Activities including dodge ball, big ball volleyball, video games, a balloon artist and more kept the students busy all night, said Mitchell McClean, morale committee chairman for the event.

Raiderthon, in its third year, is modeled after Penn State University's THON and is organized by the senior high school student council.

McClean and student council treasurer Isabelle Biase said they volunteer with the Miracle League, so it was especially rewarding to raise money for the group.

“It's so rewarding to see how it translates into their lives,” McClean said about the Miracle League participants.

The event garnered just under $22,000 when it ended Sunday, but some late donations week pushed the total over $22,000, said Jessica Herring, student council adviser.

Last year the student council donated more than $46,000 raised from Raiderthon's first two years to the Miracle League's resurfaced field and playground in Graham Park in Cranberry Township. The field and playground project were the Cranberry Township Community Chest's 2016 Project of the Year.
