Water in Mars schools receives passing grade

ADAMS TWP — Tests recently performed in all five Mars School District buildings show the drinking water is well within acceptable levels.

Superintendent Wesley Shipley announced at the Tuesday night school board meeting that only one building that was tested reached the “trace” level for contaminants, and that was well below the level at which action must be taken.

Regarding copper testing, the highest result in the schools’ water also was well under actionable levels, Shipley said.

“Considering what’s happening in the area, it’s something we’re happy about,” he said.

Shipley was referring to the high lead levels found in the water at Summit Township Elementary School in the Butler School District.

Summit students are currently attending classes at Broad Street Elementary School in Butler.
