'Sound of Music' heard at Moniteau

CHERRY TWP — Moniteau High School will present the musical “The Sound of Music” at 7:30 p.m. April 7 and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 8 in the high school auditorium, 1810 W. Sunbury Road.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved via the website, www.moniteaumusical.com/tickets.

Payments for online tickets may be made at the lobby with cash or check. Single tickets are $7 each, group tickets (group of five or more) are $5 each. Family packs at $32 each are available through presale only (from any student or parent associated with the show).

The final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein, “The Sound of Music” is the beloved musical with the classic songs, “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and “Do-Re-Mi.”

The musical follows the story of a young postulant named Maria.

Being too high-spirited for religious life, she is sent to serve as a governess for the seven children of Captain von Trapp. Maria develops a rapport with the children and even softens the heart of the stern captain.

Maria and the captain wed and upon returning from their honeymoon discover their beloved Austria has been invaded by the Nazis. To avoid serving in the Nazi navy, the family escapes over the mountains into Switzerland.

Elizabeth Stewart, a Moniteau High School alumna, is the director/producer.

Darcie Bishop is the vocal director, William Weltman is the music director, and Taylor Hahn is the choreographer. Piano accompaniment is provided by Dorinda Aigner.

Steve Morgan is the stage crew manager/set director/technical director, and Naomi Wagner is the costume designer.
