Moniteau assigns stadium changes

CHERRY TWP — Sports fans in the Moniteau School District can expect new stadium seats long before the start of football season.

The Moniteau School Board on Monday night accepted a bid from Stadium Solutions of Butler for $99,250 to renovate the high school stadium. It was the lower of two bids.

New decking and seats will be installed. The work also will include measures to make the stadium compliant with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“We're well under what the school district planned to spend,” said Jeff Campbell, director of buildings and grounds.

The district's 2016-17 budget included $195,000 to replace the bleachers. It also included $144,000 to replace the stadium stairs and address stormwater runoff under the seats.

Campbell said the substructure of the bleachers passed inspection. The school maintenance department will repair the stairs and correct the stormwater runoff.

Campbell said the project will be finished in May.

In October 2016 more expensive plans for replacing the bleachers were rejected. Those plans were developed before the district hired Campbell.
