Mars diver gets 2nd at PIAA

Mars senior Taylor Hockenberry placed second at the PIAA Class AAA Girls Diving Championship Meet at Bucknell University Sunday afternoon.

Hockenberry entered the event ranked third in the state and posted a final score of 468.20. North Penn High School sophomore Paige Burrell, the top seed, won the state title with a 473.45.

Hockenberry finishes her scholastic career with three WPIAL titles (the first two in Class AA) and two state championships, earned during her sophomore and junior year.

Tyler Yough's base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Jace Ebbitt to lift Karns City to a 4-3 season-opening victory over Brookville at Kelly Automotive Park on Saturday.

It was the third RBI of the game for Yough, who also earned the pitching win after working 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Sophomore Mackenzie Shay pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just a single hit in Karns City's 2-0 win over Brookville at Kelly Automotive Park.

Shay struck out six and walked one.

The Gremlins scored both runs in the bottom of the first inning as Mackenzie Dunn and Sami Grazioli crossed the plate.
