Mercer prisoner faces rape charge

An inmate from Mercer County Jail out on a work release program has been charged with rape and victim intimidation after allegedly assaulting a 46-year-old woman in the parking lot of the Grove City outlet mall.

State police in Mercer have charged Albert Scott Tedrow, 46, formerly of New Castle, with rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, victim intimidation, terroristic threats and harassment after he allegedly assaulted the woman at about 7:15 p.m. on March 10.

In a news release, state police said the woman was driving Tedrow back to the jail from his job at Adams Manufacturing in Portersville when he asked her to stop the vehicle so they could talk. Police said the woman and Tedrow had been romantically involved in the past.

Police said the woman pulled into a rear parking lot at the Grove City Premium Outlets in Springfield Township. When the vehicle was parked, police said, Tedrow raped and assaulted the woman and then threatened to harm her if she reported the incident to authorities.

Police said Tedrow has been removed from the jail’s work release program, has been arraigned on the charges and is in jail on $100,000 bail.

According to online court documents Tedrow was in Mercer County Jail on a misdemeanor retail theft charge from 2013, on which he was resentenced after violating the terms of his probation.
