Drug charges follow traffic stop

Vernon Daniels Jr.
Man allegedly had 200 stamp bags

BUFFALO TWP — An Allegheny County man was arrested last week after state police say they found him with 200 stamp bags of heroin during a traffic stop.

Vernon A. Daniels Jr., 28, of Natrona Heights is being held in the Butler County Prison on $75,000 bail.

Police said they stopped Daniels’ car about 5:25 p.m. Thursday on Route 356 near Monroe Road in Buffalo Township after they ran the license plate and found it belonged to a different vehicle.

But before they pulled over the suspect, according to court documents, police saw him throw something out the driver’s window.

Troopers later recovered the item, which turned out to be a Ziploc bag of suspected marijuana.

Daniels acknowledged that he did not have a license and it didn’t take long for police to learn that he also was wanted on a warrant.

Troopers asked him to get out of the car. A search allegedly turned up heroin that he had hidden under his clothes.

Police said he turned over a plastic baggie that contained 200 glassine bags of suspected heroin.

Daniels was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

He also was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence.

Additionally, police cited him for driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle and two other traffic violations.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg.
