Goettler gets 9th in 200 IM

Butler freshman Laura Goettler placed ninth in the 200 individual medley and 14th in the 100 breaststroke to highlight Butler County swimmers at the PIAA Class AAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell over the weekend.

Goettler swam a time of 2:02.60 in the 200 IM Saturday and logged a time of 1:04.82 Sunday in the 100 breaststroke.

Sophia Gaguzis of Seneca Valley was 16th in the 200 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle.

The Seneca Valley 200 freestyle relay team of Hannah Fernandes, Alyvia Meanor, Marleah Schlick and Gaguzis placed 16th.

On the boys side, Alex Deemer of Butler was 21st in the 200 freestyle and 16th in the 500 freestyle.

Owen Blazer of Seneca Valley was 21st in the 100 butterfly and 26th in the 100 backstroke.

Connor Quiggle of Seneca Valley was 28th in the 500 freestyle.

Butler’s girls finished 12th in the team standings at the Pennsylvania High School Championships held Saturday at Dutch Lanes in Ephrata.

Nicole Nebel paced the Golden Tornado with a 200-game and 515 series. Butler’s team score was 3,298.

Shikellamy finished first in team qualifying with a 4,047, then won the stepladder portion of the tourney to claim the championship.
