6:15 a.m. today — No one was injured when a dryer caught fire at a townhouse on East Vanderbilt Road in Adams Township. The fire, which was contained to the dryer, was reportedly extinguished around 6:30 a.m., according to volunteer firefighters. The occupants were home at the time but their names were not released. No other information, including a damage estimate, was available this morning.<h3>Grove City Police</h3>March 2 — Chelsea L. Weber, 27, of Harrisville was arrested on charges that she bought cigarettes at a convenience store last month using a check without the owner's knowledge or permission.Police said Weber on Feb. 17 used the check, belonging to a Mercer resident, at True Convenience.She was arraigned on a felony charge of forgery, a misdemeanor charge of theft by deception and a summary charge of bad checks. She was placed in the Mercer County Jail on $20,000 bail following arraignment.<h3>Slippery Rock University Police</h3>Tuesday — Hassan Abdullah, 20, of Grove City was charged with assaulting a man and then taking the man's Bluetooth speaker during an altercation last week at the victim's an on-campus dorm room.Donavin Fusco-Lomont told police that he was playing a video game with Abdullah on March 7 when they got into an argument, according to court documents.The two men eventually clashed during which the defendant allegedly grabbed Fusco-Lomont and threw him against the wall. A short time later, Abdullah placed the victim into a choke hold, documents said.The defendant eventually left but not before taking the Bluetooth speaker, valued at between $200 and $250, that was in Fusco-Lomont's bedroom.Abdullah is charged with theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault.<h3>State Police, Butler</h3>1:58 p.m. Sunday — A pickup truck driven by an elderly Clarion County man struck a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. Leonard W. Garris, 90, of Fisher told police that he “dozed off” at the wheel.Garris was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.11:26 p.m. Wednesday — William D. McGregor, 26, of Cherry Township was arrested for drunken driving following a rollover wreck on Route 38 just south of Parker Road in Washington Township.But by the time police got there, according to court documents, McGregor had fled into nearby woods. Troopers tracked footprints in the snow and found the suspect in a wooded area about 300 yards from the wreck.Police said they smelled a “very strong odor” of alcohol coming from McGregor. A breath test showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.206 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.McGregor is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed, abandoning a vehicle on a road, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, careless driving, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.He was arraigned Thursday on those charges and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.March 12 — David M. Lindt, 41, of Slippery Rock Township was charged with being more than twice the legal limit for alcohol stemming from a one-vehicle crash earlier this month in Slippery Rock Township.Police said they were called at 1:27 a.m. March 2 for a wrecked pickup truck on Stoughton Road near Route 173. Troopers, however, found no one in or around the truck, which they determined Lindt owns. They also found spilled beer in the vehicle's cup holder.Police said they located the defendant at 2:43 a.m. at his apartment. He admitted driving his truck and blamed the crash on a deer that ran out in front of him, according to court documents.Lindt smelled of alcohol and appeared impaired. He failed one field sobriety test but refused to participate in any additional tests. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.179 percent.In addition to DUI, Lindt is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, failing to immediately notify police of an accident, abandoning a vehicle on a road and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.March 12 — Police charged an Indiana County woman with drunken driving in connection with a wreck last month in Brady Township. Stephanie F. McGill, 24, of Indiana, crashed her sport utility vehicle into a tree along Route 173 about 11:20 p.m. Feb. 17.Troopers said they detected an odor of alcohol coming from McGill as a Slippery Rock Ambulance crew tended to her. She also showed signs of being under the influence. She admitted having two drinks that night, court documents said.McGill was subsequently arrested and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.134 percent.She is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.<h3>State Police, Clarion</h3>Wednesday — Steven John Murphy, 50, of Rimersburg was charged with driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and a controlled substance stemming from a traffic stop at 12:13 a.m. Feb. 20 on Route 68 in Monroe Township. He also is charged with careless driving.
